Elros Tar-Minyatur ruled the Númenóreans for four hundred years and ten. For to the Númenóreans long life had been granted, and they remained unwearied for thrice the span of mortal Men in Middle-earth; but to Eärendil's son the longest life of any Man was given

The girl ponders this as her brother falls asleep in Maglor's lap and a servant brings a tray of fruit and some fresh water.

"But if he wants you to stay it cannot be very bad."

She reasons eventually, and steals a grape.

[seawanderer]

He has plenty of practice holding a child in one arm and eating with the other.

Maglor shyly nods at the servants in thanks, plucking a grape for himself.

"Your father is biased in my favor, while others are not."

"Why?"

She has, by this point, curled up almost ON his feet, and is stealing grapes with impunity.

"Father is very good at being unbiased, mother says."

[seawanderer]

Why else would Maglor have moved his legs to juuust the right angle for leaning against but for just this purpose?

He's helpless against children. Duh.

"Another question for your father, child," he diverts again.

"And he can be unbiased, I just...seem to be a special case, judging by the fact he's brought me here and left me supervised only by his own children."

The little princess lifts her chin proudly.

"I'm twelve, I'm old enough to look after myself."

[seawanderer]

Maglor smiles softly and reaches down to pet her hair fondly.

"And you do so admirably. I am, however, a fair bit taller than you."

She sniffs, but leans into the hand.

"That's because you are an adult."

[seawanderer]

Typical child! And so very like Elros it makes his heart ache.

"I see your father has been teaching you well!"

[tar_minyatur]

"We have the bestest father and he's king" She says, although she doesn't actually have any idea what a king is beyond that it makes father run around busily a lot and complain.

[seawanderer]

She'll learn! All she really needs to know is her dad's Very Important and loved. And busy.

Maglor hums softly, taking another bite of fruit. "I have seen that for myself."

After all, not only was he cleaned up and his wounds bound, but he woke in fresh clothing- though he can see his usual, old clothing washed and folded on another table, and in Elros' own home.

The distant call of voices and she perks up, her brother stirring from his dozing place against Maglor, as footsteps come hurrying up and Elros bursts through the door.

"You're awake!"

[seawanderer]

He turns to the door as well, arm automatically adjusting to continue supporting the waking child, and offers a shy smile to Elros.

"Ever the observant one," he agrees, daring to tease a little.

The girl launches herself across for Elros to pick up and spin and he smiles as he comes over.

"I try to be! And have you been looking after our guest, my little precious ones?"

"Yes!"

Elros chuckles and plucks his son from Maglor's lap, kisses them both and sends them out with instructions to find their mother, before turning and looking at Maglor.

"So." Hes says cheerfully, and manages to make it sound like a threat.

Eep!

Maglor flushes guiltily once the bright children are out of the room, but he can't bring himself to look away from Elros. Not now.

"...I can go..." But now that he's here, he's not...so sure he wants to. The island hasn't sunk yet, right? Maybe it's...safe...?

"Oh no." Elros says with a cheerful smile with far too many teeth.

"You're not going anywhere."

[seawanderer]

Dooooomed. That's what that smile tells him.

Maglor slowly stands not sure if Elros would shove him right back down into the chair or not.

"Why are you willing to take the chance?"

[tar_minyatur]

The smile never wavers, Elros casually stalking towards him.

"What, the chance that you will vanish into thin air again if I let you wander off?"

[seawanderer]

He offers a feeble smile but doesn't try to run away, it wouldn't work anyway.

"You know my meaning, Elros," he answers, softly. "You have a home here, I do not have to have seen it to know it. I do not wish to destroy it by being here."

Now that he's close enough, Elros punches him. Hard.

"Idiot. You're here because you deserve a home too."

[seawanderer]

Maglor doesn't even try to defend himself. Elros could attack in earnest and he wouldn't raise a hand against him. So he stumbles back with a low grunt.

"...I am here because someone dragged me. And I disagree."

"Too bad." Elros says cheerfully, shaking out his fist.

"Besides, I'm the king here, so what I says goes. You're staying."

[seawanderer]

He sighs and approaches to reach for the 'wounded' hand.

But there's a hint of pride as he glances furtively at Elros.

"...As you command, my king?"

Elros lets him take it, but only so that he can pull him into a hug.

"And if you say that again I'll deck you."

[seawanderer]

Maglor flinches but doesn't fight. Slowly he leans into the hug.

"You already have," he retorts innocently.

[tar_minyatur]

"So I'll do it again." Elros says, and refuses to let go until Maglor relaxes.

"Or I'll let Elrond do it. He's due to visit next week you know~ I'm still not sure if he's rowing or just asked Ulmo for a really rapid current."
